The Center for Research on Maternal and Child Health (CMAMAWAWA) has carried out numerous research activities in the areas of reproductive, neonatal, child, and adolescent health, covering a wide range of topics from genetics and molecular biology to the evaluation of health policies, programs, and systems. This research has received funding from various sources, both national and international. As a result, MAMAWAWA members have published more than 200 articles in indexed international journals since 2016. Peru has an epidemiological profile in transition, with the coexistence of prevalent childhood diseases and chronic noncommunicable diseases. It therefore requires a sustained research effort in various areas, including the social determinants of maternal and child health, genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors, as well as their interaction. It is necessary to address various aspects of each health problem, from risk factors to short- and long-term consequences, including pathogenic mechanisms at the population, individual, and subcellular levels. It is equally important to develop basic and clinical research, including the evaluation of the usefulness of different diagnostic and therapeutic instruments and technological innovations. Our center is dedicated to developing research that addresses the various aspects mentioned above.
