Infectious Diseases Laboratory: Molecular Biology

The Infectious Disease Research Laboratory: Molecular Biology has the following objectives: to conduct research that helps to understand the host-parasite interaction of infectious agents that are a health problem in our country; to understand the factors that mediate the pathogenic action of infectious agents; and to develop highly sensitive and specific diagnostic methods that can be used in endemic areas. Another objective is to share the knowledge generated in the laboratory with undergraduate and graduate students at our university and other universities in our country and abroad. The laboratory has produced more than 300 publications in indexed scientific journals and has developed animal models to understand the pathogenesis of diseases such as neurocysticercosis, Chagas disease, neurotoxocariasis, and toxoplasmosis. The importance of the laboratory lies not only in generating knowledge or understanding host-parasite interaction, but also in training new young researchers, motivating interest in science, and seeking solutions to health problems caused by infectious agents that are a health problem in our region.
