Laboratory of Biodiversity Studies

The Biodiversity Studies Laboratory conducts research on the ecology and conservation of wild flora and fauna, with an emphasis on endangered species. As part of this conservation approach, it also conducts assessments of wildlife parasitic ecology and animal health, aimed at determining the overall status of wild populations. In addition, in situ and ex situ animal behavior studies are conducted as a tool for wildlife species conservation. At the same time, biological inventories are developed in specific areas of interest to assist in the implementation of protected natural areas, as well as to create basic information for decision-making and natural resource management. Part of our research development includes the design and development of Biological Baselines and Monitoring Programs, among others, for investment projects. Additionally, we conduct studies in urban ecology, evaluating the human-nature interface. As part of our activities, we provide professional training on topics related to ecology, conservation, and natural resource management. Its importance lies in the fact that it generates relevant and up-to-date information on biodiversity, with a different approach, mainly multidisciplinary and with an emphasis on wild species that are priorities for conservation. We train undergraduate and graduate students, mainly in biology, and at the same time we establish effective links with state institutions and private companies to develop projects in ecology, biodiversity, and conservation.
