Organization profile

The Parasitic Immunology Laboratory designs, develops, produces, and evaluates immunodiagnostic tests, mainly ELISA tests for the detection of taeniasis, cysticercosis, and other parasitic diseases in various biological fluids such as serum, cerebrospinal fluid, urine, and feces. It also produces monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies; somatic antigens, secretory/excretory antigens, and purified antigens from various parasites. Our unit is the leading laboratory for the immunological diagnosis of Taeniasis and Cysticercosis at the national level. Our direct and indirect serological methods allow us to determine the presence of antigens or antibodies in various types of biological fluids. The laboratory plays an important role, as it is responsible for screening biological samples from areas endemic to Taenia solium. It also monitors antigen dynamics in samples from patients with a confirmed diagnosis of neurocysticercosis (NCC).
