Organization profile

The Neurocysticercosis Immunopathology Laboratory conducts research on the characterization of cerebral inflammation caused by Taenia solium larvae using the porcine model; Host-parasite interaction at the histological, cellular, and molecular levels, mainly at the level of the immune response, under the effects of anthelmintic and anti-inflammatory drugs; Cultivation of proliferative cells and cysts of T. solium and T. crassiceps ( ) in the presence of anthelmintic drugs or development factors; Generation of monoclonal antibodies against T. solium antigens; identification and characterization of molecules and mechanisms relevant to the host-parasite relationship in neurocysticercosis for use as candidates for future diagnostic applications. The Neurocysticercosis Immunopathology Laboratory has enabled the execution of basic and applied research projects, generating new knowledge and information about the mechanism of infection of the central nervous system with T. solium cysts. This knowledge is reflected in the large number of scientific articles published since its foundation. The laboratory is currently expanding its research topics to address new aspects of the pathology, treatment, and diagnosis of neurocysticercosis.
