Organization profile

The Malaria Laboratory focuses on studying the immune response of patients, seeking to understand the mechanisms of asymptomatic parasitemia. In addition, it works on the search for serological markers that help estimate the actual prevalence of the disease in our region, the evaluation of new, more sensitive and specific diagnostic methods, and the study of parasite invasion routes to identify possible targets for vaccines. Thanks to collaborative work between national and international institutions, it can tackle this problem in a multidisciplinary manner with the ultimate goal of using its results to help implement more efficient control tools and achieve the elimination of malaria in the country. The scientific evidence obtained and/or tools developed by the laboratory in the different areas mentioned would help MINSA to design and/or improve the strategies it is currently using.
