The Antimicrobial Resistance and Phage Therapy Laboratory is responsible for detecting and characterizing, phenotypically and molecularly, the mechanisms of resistance in clinically important Gram-negative bacteria (Enterobacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii) and Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Enterococcus spp.). It evaluates the molecular epidemiology of antibiotic resistance, the resistome, and virulome of clinically important bacteria. In addition, the capacity of bacteriophages to prevent, treat, and control bacterial infections (phage therapy) is evaluated, and work is being done with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enterica serotype typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii.
