Organization profile

The Sexual Health Laboratory strengthens the work of the CIISSS by generating information that allows for analysis of the effect of the strategies evaluated in the various research projects it is developing. In addition, we are one of the few laboratories in Latin America that conducts research on genotyping and antimicrobial resistance of Treponema pallidum, strengthening the information available in the region. The evaluation of new diagnostic tools allows us to generate scientific evidence for the implementation of these new technologies in the scenarios that require them, facilitating access to diagnosis for the populations that need it. Since its founding, the Sexual Health Laboratory has participated in complementing the generation of biological evidence in various epidemiological studies in populations at high risk of acquiring STIs and HIV. With a biobank of characterized samples, we have developed various studies to validate new STI diagnostic technologies, including antibody detection tests and nucleic acid amplification assay platforms.
