Activities within the Plant Transformation Laboratory have focused on the use of biochemical, molecular biology, and in vitro culture tools for the identification and characterization of varieties and populations in domesticated, semi-domesticated, and wild plant species growing in Peru, as well as for their clonal propagation. Within the characterization of these species, the main interest has been the study of their response to different types of stress, both biotic (pests) and abiotic (drought, salinity, high and low temperatures). Although the research carried out has had a strong basic foundation, the findings may be useful for applications in agriculture and for strengthening the basis for the conservation and use of natural resources and products.
