The Helicobacter Pylori Sentinel Unit was created in collaboration with the IRD and the UPCH and has two lines of research. The first line of research, "Studies on the valorization of natural products with potential anti-Helicobacter pylori activity," resulted in seven master's theses at UPCH, two bachelor's theses, three research articles published in international journals, and presentations at national and international scientific conferences and workshops. The second line of research, "Sentinel Laboratory Prototype," was created with the support of FONDECYT to monitor the rates of antimicrobial resistance present in H. pylori isolated from dyspeptic patients. The laboratory has microbiological and molecular evaluation techniques to carry out this epidemiological surveillance. This line of research has resulted in one bachelor's thesis, one master's thesis at UPCH, and presentations at national conferences and seminars. Two publications have appeared in national journals. A doctorate (UPCH) and a master's degree (UPCH) are underway on the identification of genetic factors of virulence and antibiotic resistance in H. pylori strains isolated from Peruvian patients.
