The Immunology Unit carries out research, undergraduate and graduate academic activities, and diagnostic services. In the area of research, projects are developed related to elucidating human immunological mechanisms in response t r retroviral infections and their co-infections, as well as parasitic infections, mycobacteria, and fungi, considered neglected tropical diseases. At the academic level, InmunoLab carries out undergraduate activities at the Faculty of Medicine, teaching courses in immunology (2nd year) and pathology (3rd year), as well as postgraduate activities in the pathology program and the development of the Gorgas International Course in Tropical Medicine. Its importance lies in being one of the few laboratories dedicated to researching immunological processes in neglected tropical diseases. In addition, it is a laboratory that allows for research and teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Inmunolab gives undergraduate students the opportunity to develop their research ideas during their training. Another additional point is that it allows for the exchange of ideas and thus enables projects with people and institutions outside our country. Currently, with the SARS-CoV2 pandemic, understanding the process of infection and immunology of different infections is vital for scientific development.
