The Innovation for Health and Development Unit works on innovating TB diagnostic tests to make them simple, straightforward, and accessible to people with limited financial resources, as well as easy to implement in a network of laboratories that are not overly complex. In addition, pulmonary and extrapulmonary samples are processed from patients with suspected or diagnosed TB, most of whom are from Callao and Ventanilla. The tests performed include: smear microscopy and microscopy with Ziehl Neelsen, Auramine, fluorescein diacetate, and other stains currently under investigation; Genexpert (molecular test); drug susceptibility cultures in liquid (MODS, MGIT) and solid (Ogawa, LJ, and Thin Layer Agar) media. The latter is represented by the Color Test); indirect sensitivity testing from positive culture strains; preparation of culture media, reagents, dyes, etc.; quality control; cryopreservation of strains; and training of national and international health personnel. This laboratory research is conducted within the context of our community research that evaluates innovative strategies to prevent, predict, find, diagnose, and cure TB and improve health and quality of life after TB.
