Organization profile

The Genomics Research Unit has sequenced the potato genome and created genetic and physical maps. Various aspects of biology have been studied, such as resistance to biotic factors, genetic improvement of crops for agro-export, bread crops, and medicinal plants (potato, barley, quinoa, cacao, grape). Work has also been done on DNA barcoding of medicinal plants. Transcriptomic analysis of Solanum spp. to biotic and abiotic factors, evaluation of the diversity of pathogenic fungi for plants of agro-industrial importance, identification of cryptic fungal species. In recent years, this unit has contributed to knowledge of the country's biodiversity. Since its inception, it has also contributed to human resources training through research (via degree theses) and courses involving national and international scientists and students.
