The HIV Unit conducts an observational, analytical, and longitudinal study that aims to describe the characteristics of HIV infection in the population treated at the Cayetano Heredia National Hospital. To date, it has enrolled nearly 6,000 patients who receive specialized care under the National Health Strategy for the Prevention and Control of STIs, HIV, and AIDS. The main variables studied include mortality; evaluation of response, failure, adherence, and adverse effects to antiretroviral treatment; opportunistic infections; and neoplasms. The study also closely monitors the behavior and presentation of tuberculosis cases in this group of patients.
