Dr. Lescano holds a PhD in Global Epidemiology and Disease Control from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. He also holds master's degrees in Biostatistics and Health Policy from the same university. Since 2003, he has been an associate professor at the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University (UPCH) and an adjunct professor at the universities of Texas, Rama Médica, Johns Hopkins, Tulane, and Wake Forest. Between 2002 and 2015, Dr. Lescano directed the Public Health Training Program and the Department of Parasitology at the U.S. Navy Tropical Disease Research Unit (NAMRU-6) in Peru. Between 2017 and 2018, he was the Director General of the National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Control, and Prevention, CDC Peru, of the Ministry of Health. He has studied the epidemiology of infectious diseases for two decades with a strong quantitative focus and has published more than 115 articles in international journals. Dr. Lescano has also trained hundreds of master's students and more than 2,000 epidemiologists under high-impact regional initiatives. His research focuses on emerging diseases and parasitic infections and integrates epidemiology, biostatistics, immunology, molecular biology, clinical medicine, and behavioral sciences.
