I am a biologist specializing in cellular and molecular biology, with a master’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology and a Ph.D. in science. I am Co-Director of the Andean-Amazonian Laboratory of Chemistry of Life (LAVI) at Cayetano Heredia University in Peru, where I lead ProCiencia-funded projects focused on evaluating new natural and synthetic molecules with anti-Leishmania activity in vitro and in vivo. I also conduct research on natural products with anti-Helicobacter pylori activity and participate in the implementation of a Sentinel Laboratory for monitoring antimicrobial resistance in Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium associated with gastritis and gastric cancer.

Currently, my work also focuses on the search for and molecular characterization via UPLC-MS of new antibiotic molecules obtained from insect microbiota, with the aim of contributing to the fight against antimicrobial resistance in human and animal pathogens.

In the field of Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials, I conduct research on sustainable biomaterials, bio-inks for 3D bioprinting, and hydrogels with applications in healthcare, agriculture, and the environment. Part of this research involves the use of organic waste and biopolymers, such as chitosan, to develop biomaterials with potential applications in regenerative medicine, controlled-release of compounds, and sustainable technologies.

I serve as a full-time professor at Cayetano Heredia University (UPCH), teaching courses in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Tissue Engineering for the Biomedical Engineering, Medicine, and Nursing programs, in addition to actively advising undergraduate and graduate theses.

In terms of academic administration, I am the Coordinator of the Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials track within the Biomedical Engineering program and the Coordinator of the Master’s in Biotechnology and Innovation at UPCH.
