Personal profile

PhD geologist specializing in the study of microfossils (pollen and spores). I am interested in studying the fossil record to reconstruct the characteristics of past ecosystems, landscapes, and species.

My research focuses on studying vegetation dynamics in South America and the ecosystems that have existed there over the past 65 million years (Cenozoic Era).

I specialize in reconstructing how tropical biomes—from the Amazon rainforests to the deserts of the Pacific coast—responded to major tectonic and climatic factors, including the uplift of the Andes, the development of the Pebas megawetland, and the intensification of the Humboldt Current. In Peru, my research is dedicated to understanding the origin and evolution of the Humboldt Current.
