He attended primary school in Tingo María and secondary school at the Gran Unidad Leoncio Prado in Huánuco. In 1979, he entered Cayetano Heredia University and, after graduating as a physician, he completed his doctorate in epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University. He has always been interested in solving practical problems in Peru and is attentive to new developments in this area. He began researching cysticercosis out of a love for science. Today, he is a nationally and internationally recognized scientist who has received numerous awards. Together with other prominent professionals, he successfully leads the Cysticercosis Working Group in Peru, which has published around 100 articles in indexed journals.
