Master’s degree in Medicine from Cayetano Heredia University (UPCH, Peru). Board-certified physician from UPCH. Specialist in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine. He directs several internationally funded projects that enable dozens of young students to conduct research. He was the first Peruvian to serve as President of the International Society for Infectious Diseases. He is an adjunct professor at the William J. Harrington Training Programs for Latin America at the University of Miami; the Department of Global Health at Johns Hopkins University; and the Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA. Today, he is a Full Professor at the UPCH School of Medicine, Chair of the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases at Cayetano Heredia Hospital, and Director of the Alexander von Humboldt Institute of Tropical Medicine. He has published more than 400 scientific articles, more than 40 chapters in internationally distributed books, 2 books, and 6 manuals.
