Personal profile

A pediatrician based in Peru, he graduated from the National University of San Marcos and Cayetano Heredia University. He has extensive experience in research related to maternal and child health and survival, health systems, and human resources in health, as well as in epidemiological and public health research and impact assessment studies of complex interventions. He has also conducted research on adaptation to high-altitude hypoxia and traffic accidents. He was one of the leaders of the Multi-Country Evaluation of Impact, Cost, and Effectiveness of the Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses project, which was coordinated by the Department of Child and Adolescent Health and Development at the World Health Organization and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID. This pioneering global research effort, which spanned five countries across different regions of the world, marked a milestone in the history of child health and made a decisive contribution to elevating this area—along with reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health—to the highest priority at both the global and national levels.
