Dr. Magaly Blas is a professor and researcher at the School of Public Health and Administration at Cayetano Heredia University in Peru, where she heads the Intercultural Citizenship and Indigenous Health Unit, as well as the Mamás del Río Program. Dr. Blas also leads the Secretariat for Policy Advocacy in Medicine and Public Health at the Peruvian Medical Association. In addition, she is an affiliate professor in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington in the United States, where she serves on the Advisory Board. Dr. Blas is a medical graduate of Cayetano Heredia University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Public Health with a specialization in epidemiology from the University of Washington. She has also completed two certificate programs in HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections and Medical Informatics at the same institution. Since 2016, she has received numerous awards, including the Elsevier Foundation’s international award for women researchers, the L’Oréal-UNESCO-Concytec Award for Peruvian Women Scientists, the Women in Innovation Award from Cayetano Heredia University, as well as Eisenhower and Fulbright fellowships. She also won the Eisenhower Fellowships Impact Award in 2025 and the Mid-Career Leadership Award from the Consortium of Universities in Global Health in 2026. Under her leadership, the Mamás del Río Program received the 2016 Award for Best Practices in Public Management from Ciudadanos al Día, as well as the Award for Best Practices in Primary Health Care and the Award for Social Innovation in Health in the Andean Region, both from PAHO. Dr. Blas is the author of more than 50 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and three book chapters. In 2023, she was named by Forbes magazine as one of the 50 most influential women in Peru.
