Researcher and senior lecturer in the Microbiology Section of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Sciences at the School of Science and Engineering of the Cayetano Heredia University of Peru (UPCH). She holds a PhD in Disease Control and Prevention from Johns Hopkins University, a Master’s degree in Microbiology from the Cayetano Heredia University of Peru, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the same university. She currently serves as coordinator of the LID’s Infectious Diseases, Immunology, and Molecular Biology Research Laboratory and head of the Microbiology Section. She also served as coordinator of the Master’s program in Microbiology from 2016 to 2021. In 2009, she won the L’Oréal-UNESCO-CONCYTEC National Award “For Women in Science” for her project titled “Characterization of the adhesion proteins of the Taenia solium oncosphere: interaction with laminin and fibronectin.”

She has developed a novel murine model that allows for the study of the pathogenesis of neurocysticercosis, demonstrating that the parasite causes axonal damage, evidenced by axonal swelling and neuronal death in the nervous system tissue surrounding the parasite. She is also developing in vitro models to understand host-parasite interactions in diseases that represent a public health problem in Peru, such as Chagas disease, cystic echinococcosis, neurocysticercosis, and toxocariasis, among others. He has developed an innovative mouse model that allows for the study of the pathogenesis of neurocysticercosis, demonstrating that the parasite causes axonal damage, as evidenced by axonal swelling and neuronal death in the nervous system tissue surrounding the parasite. He has also been developing in vitro models to understand host-parasite interactions in diseases that pose a public health problem in Peru, such as Chagas disease, cystic echinococcosis, neurocysticercosis, and toxocariasis, among other infectious diseases.

She has been an academic member of the National Academy of Sciences since 2014. Currently, he has research projects funded by PROCIENCIA-CONCYTEC aimed at studying the factors that mediate Chagas cardiomyopathy using in vivo and in vitro models, as well as identifying new drug candidates capable of inhibiting the inflammatory response in neurocysticercosis and reversing axonal damage. Similarly, in collaboration with national and international institutions, he participates in research on vaccine candidates to prevent canine echinococcosis.
